Civil engineers are involved with the systems that are essential to our modern way of life - they plan, design, and construct roads, bridges and airports, buildings, water supply and wastewater treatment plants, waterways, ports, and dams. Working to protect the environment by developing and applying remedial technologies to contaminated groundwater and soil, Civil engineers are well qualified to participate in the decision-making processes regarding infrastructure systems.
The Department of civil Engineering established in the year 1980-81, has over the years it has grown into a full-fledged department with the present intake of 60 students. There has been significant improvement in quality, infrastructure and other facilities and has so far promoted more than 3000 diploma civil Engineers who are contributing significantly to the development and running of various public and private organizations in India and abroad in the fields of Academics, Research, Industrial and Social sector.
The course aims at producing highly qualified, efficient technicians capable of meeting the requirements of basic civil engineering field. Planning, drafting (both manual and computer-aided), surveying, estimation and costing, transportation engineering are taught and the course also offers adequate exposure to reinforced concrete structures, material testing etc., Students also get a feel of extensive survey and irrigation and bridge drawing. They are also exposed to software’s like AUTOCAD and STAAD. We offer excellent computer resources with workstations, computer-aided drawing, graphics, word processing, statistics, and other discipline specific software available in student accessible computer labs.
The Department of civil Engineering is affiliated by BTE Govt. of Karnataka and recognized by DTE and approved by AICTE New Delhi. There are excellent career opportunities available for Diploma holders in Civil Engineering. They can establish their own consultancy or become licensed class I contractors.
